Grants for peer learning groups

Application deadline for Spring 2021: March 5, 2021

  • Ways of holding a peer learning group:
    1. Through a face-to-face meeting
    2. By an online meeting: Applicants need to provide their web address (URL)
  • Eligibility:
    1. Participants must be Tzu Chi University students. However, international students studying in the Chinese Language Center, and students of other educational institutions, are also welcome.
    2. Participating students in a group may look for a faculty member to guide them.
  • Types of peer learning groups
    1. Group for reading books: Students choose a book or a subject, and they read and discuss with each other.
    2. Group for enhancing grades: Each semester, the University will provide awards for grade improvement related to their academic work and conduct.
    3. Group to prepare for licensure exams: The certificates/licenses must be related to students’ secondary skills, and the group must have at least three members.
    4. Group for project-based learning: Students learn from multiple subjects, gaining their firsthand experience from various projects, or making efforts in research and development projects. The group members must be five or more.
  1. Application procedures
    1. On or before March 2, the group leader must present the application form, along with a plan for managing the group, and its expenditures.
    2. The group for enhancing grades must access https://forms.gle/ELNUrmWsvMvLxbLd9 to fill in the application.
    3. Other groups must send their applications by email: alien0601@mail.tcu.edu.tw, and state “This application is related to organize a peer learning group in Spring 2021”.
    4. In case applicants do not receive any reply within 1-2 working days, after sending the application, please contact the Center right away.
    5. The Center will notify the groups, which have been approved for the grant, by a public announcement and an email.

Students are required to present their learning outcomes and the University will provide rewards.

  •  Presenting learning outcomes:
    • Each group may use a variety of ways to present its learning outcome, such as using a poster, slideshow, video, etc., and each group is required to submit its presentation form, one week before the results presentation. Things to note are listed below:
      1. Poster size: A0
      2. Slideshow: Twenty slides or less
      3. Video: Keep the time within three minutes and use 1920×1080 pixels of resolution.
    • The presentation should include:
      1. The learning topic and learning content
      2. Learning records
      3. Reflections
      4. Review of what was done
      5. Learning outcome(s) and highlights
      6. Upload the presentation to Google Cloud, using the file name Peer Learning Group – your group typeyour group name”.
    • If a group fails to upload its presentation file, or misses its presentation, all group members will be disallowed to apply for any grants associated with the peer learning group, for the following semester.
  • The University will provide rewards.
    • The Center for Faculty Development and Instructional Resources will invite faculty members of the related fields to form a review team, to review records, reports and learning outcomes, etc., provided by each group. Reviewers will base the creativity and learning outcomes demonstrated by each group, to provide awards to peer learning groups and faculty members who guide students to run their groups. The University may upload students’ learning outcomes to YouTube, the University’s website or E-newsletter.
    • Award winners should be no more than one tenth of the participants.
    • Faculty members who guide students to run their peer learning groups and assist students to complete their group presentations, will earn extra points for assisting students in their learning, which is a part of the University’s Faculty Performance Review.
    • Cash awards given to students’ peer learning groups and faculty members will be subject to the University’s available funds.
